The Japanese do love a bit of cosplay.

It’s usually people, though, who dress up as their favorite manga or anime characters.

Cats dressing up as sophisticated dinner dates?

Not so much.

Unless their name is Maro.

Maro is a 3-year-old cat who keeps his mum, Rie Matsui, company at dinner while rocking a variety of outstanding outfits.

He doesn’t eat any of the food from the table, but he does bring a big side order of feline adorability.

His mum does often gives him a reward after the pictures have been taken too.

“He is great at posing because he’s so quiet and easy going,” she told The Dodo.

It seems dressing animals up is becoming a thing now, as we saw recently with Hazel the pug and the toad who wears hats.

Like Hazel, Maro has his own Instagram page where his fans eagerly await his next look.

They say a picture speaks a thousand words.

I don’t know the Japanese equivalent of that idiom, but Maro’s 77.1k (!) followers know it to be true.

See for yourself in our gallery, and check out his Instagram if you want to keep up with all his future outfits along with a steady stream of mouthwatering Japanese food.
